Chapter 10 Last Stop, Munich Right on schedule the train departed the station. About an hour into the trip, Olivia walked to the dining car and had some dinner. She returned to her compartment after she finished her meal. As she lay in bed, she began reading her book. Not being able to concentrate on her reading any longer, Olivia grabbed her laptop and walked to the bar-car. As she approached the car she could have sworn she saw Brian but, as she entered, she realized it was just a good look-alike. She plugged her computer in and logged into her email account. As she sat reading her mail a phone began to ring. She looked on the table next to her and saw an abandoned cell phone. Olivia asked the few people in the car if they knew who the phone belonged to. No one seemed to know where the phone came from or who it belonged to. Not seeing any train personnel around, Olivia stuck the phone in her bag. She figured she would drop it off at the lost and found area at the train station in Munich. Olivia finished up her messages and looked at the clock. It was 11pm and she decided after her late night out last night, it was time for bed. She walked back to her compartment and carefully locked the door behind her. She decided not to change into her pajamas, she didn’t feel like un-packing them. Olivia climbed into bed and turned off the light. She lay there waiting to fall asleep. Between the gentle rocking of the train, and the soothing noise of the rails beneath her touching the tracks, Olivia drifted off to sleep. Olivia had been sleeping for a few hours when she awoke suddenly. She had a most bizarre dream involving her new friend Clive. The dream took place in England at, what she could only imagine was, Clive’s house. The new Keeshond puppy was running around in the yard. Two men came walking out of the front door of the home. One was Clive, the other was Brian. Olivia sat up in the bed thinking about the dream. She was trying to figure out what it was supposed to mean. After about a half hour, she gave up on trying to decipher the meaning of the dream, and decided to go back to sleep. The train pulled into the Munich train station and Olivia was excited that this was her last full day in Europe. As much as she loved Europe, she was really missing Brian, especially today, as it was their anniversary. Olivia exited the train coach and thanked the staff on her way out. She posed with one of the crew members in front of the train, another shot for her scrapbook. She walked through the station and out into the street. She stood on the sidewalk and waited for a taxi. An empty taxi finally stopped and Olivia hopped in. The driver took Olivia to the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski located in the city center. Olivia paid the cab driver and he assisted her with her bags. After she provided the driver with a generous tip, she walked into the hotel. She was quickly checked-in and given her room key. She found the elevators and got to her room as fast as she could. She couldn’t wait to see if there was a phone message waiting for her from Brian. Olivia entered her key into the card-reader of the room and pushed the door open... |
