Up and Down the Bridges – Up and Down the Bridges is an unusual non-competitive walk up and down the many bridges and through various areas of Venice. This is an old tradition that welcomes everyone to join in.
After a mass in Piazza San Marco, participants gather for the beginning of the walk. Groups are divided into those who do the full walk (involving 42 bridges) and the rest, who come mainly for the fun and the atmosphere and walk for about half of the event, up and down 28 bridges. |

Saint George's Day – Barcelona enjoys its very own version of St Valentine's Day, otherwise known as "Lovers' Day", on St George's Day. Sources estimate that over four million roses are bought on this day, as many join in the celebration.
While men traditionally give their girlfriends a rose, girls present their knights with a book. A walk down Las Ramblas reveals hundreds of book vendors which sell some 400,000 books on St George's Day.
The celebration comes from the legend of the Saint himself - he famously slayed a dragon and a red rose sprouted miraculously from a drop of its blood. The Saint then presented that rose to a princess. Show your love on this day and join in the celebration. |
